MyMiniLife

24 May 2007

So I’ve decided to go full time in the Fall when I return to the US. Zao had pitched me the idea less than 2 weeks ago and I had been thinking about it all week. I talked to my family and about it and they seemed to be strongly against it (my mom is still strongly against it). Here’s what happened…

I was actually going to decline and to try to finish school. But, when I came home from Sumo on Sunday, I saw the TechCrunch article before reading my email. I nearly shit my pants. I was flipping out. MyMiniLife?! On TechCrunch!?! Could this have been possible?! I opened my email to let the team know what happened, and they already knew. My inbox was full of stuff about it.

Since then, everything has been pretty crazy. It’s only been 4 days, but our site is going crazy. Our server couldn’t handle the traffic, so we scrambled to get another one up and running. Our meeting this week, everyone was just laughing at how crazy it had become. Nearly instantly, VCs, companies, universities… everyone wanted to talk to us. Everyone wants to give us money. I don’t know how everyone else is handling it all, but I’m pretty shocked.

So, late last night I talked to Zao on the phone. Amitt is going full time in the Fall as well. With the three of us, and possibly Doug as well, we could seriously kick some ass. So, I decided that I wasn’t risking anything. I’m not losing anything by taking this opportunity. So I take a year off of school. So what? If this fails, then I go back to school, no problems. If it succeeds, I take the money, finish school, and then start another company with the same guys. Me taking a year off of school is no risk at all. Especially considering the experience I’ll gain being with the team, which is solid. Very solid.

The rest is history. I called the College of Engineering, spoke to the dean, informed him of my intentions to take a leave of absence. He said good luck and he hopes to not see me again. Kind of funny how that works huh…

I went to bed last night at 4am. I could barely sleep. I think I fell asleep around 5am, when the sun was coming back up. I was completely exhausted today, but I’m still on a high about what’s happening. We’re going to be doing some amazing things.
